In this 8 player race, you'll find yourself on a floating space comet. You can't remember how you got there but you do know one thing for certain. You need to gather all 5 magic scrolls before the other players do. It's your only way out.
This is an obstacle course with increasingly more difficult game mechanics as players progress through it.
☄️Game Flow☄️
At the start of the level, players climb the stairs out of the water and arrive at the first series of jumps. There's no penalty for missing these jumps since if they do, they'll fall into the water and can try again.
Next is the balance bridge. Players can either carefully walk across, or apply what they've learned earlier and run and jump across at max speed.
Sections like these are good to challenge new players who might not be used to the movement and reward skilled players with quicker progression.
Every part of this sequence introduces a new idea: 1. Simple jumps 2. Moving platforms 3. Either careful balance or skilled jumps across the bridge. The player learns a new way to tackle obstacles at each step and gets a consistent sense of progression as they're learning.
Later in the course, there is a large open area with targets on the walls and platforms the player needs to raise by shooting the targets. A nearby vending machine drops a Burst Pulse Rifle for the player to use to shoot the targets and raise the platforms. This breaks up the pace of the obstacle course and adds a new experience by mixing in shooting.
☄️Collectibles☄️
This map uses collectibles as part of the condition to complete the course.
Magic scrolls are used to reward exploration and progression. Two of the scrolls aren't immediately obvious though, and require players to explore a little to find them.
Pacing is important and sometimes it's refreshing to give players a break from jumping.
Small milestones or areas where players can explore, and placing discoverable rewards like scrolls rewards their curiosity. This setup ensures players get most of the scrolls in their first playthrough and minimizes backtracking if they don't find all of them by the time they reach the end.
